Date : 06 November 2024

Dear Sir/Madam Suppliers of services and products to KEW Foundries forms an integral part of our Quality Management System and ability to meet the expectations of our customers. Supplier performance is measured based on the number of orders placed on the supplier and the ability of the supplier to deliver goods or services as per the order.

Botswana Stage Tank – Water Storage and Pump Project

01 SOLHAR Botswana - Water Storage and Pump - Stage Tank

Grade B container purchase and delivered. Not in too bad of a shape.

Details about this Project;

THE CLIENT’S REQUEST:

Our client in Botswana requested us to come up with a solution for a stage tank to be able to store and pump water out of the pit area. Because of the depth of the pit, it is not feasible to pump water all the way up and out. The pumps required to do this is not cost effective. To be able to use smaller pumps the water needs to be pump in stages i.e. halfway up and then the last bit out of the pit area.

THE SOLUTION:

To achieve this, you need to be able to store large quantities of water before pumping it further.

We did some investigation and realized that is you reinforce and seal a container it will work perfectly.

VERMEULENS NEW DEVELOPMENT – WIFI TOWER INSTALLATION 01

Our Solhar team started by strengthening the container frame from the outside.

VERMEULENS NEW DEVELOPMENT – WIFI TOWER INSTALLATION 02

Container is boxed up and twice as rigid as before.

VERMEULENS NEW DEVELOPMENT – WIFI TOWER INSTALLATION 03

The original floor in containers are made from wood which needed to be removed and new floor installed made from sheet metal.

VERMEULENS NEW DEVELOPMENT – WIFI TOWER INSTALLATION 02

To assist with the pressure of weight of 80000lt, we installed pipe supports on the inside of the container.

VERMEULENS NEW DEVELOPMENT – WIFI TOWER INSTALLATION 03

Access hatches were also fabricated for easy access for maintenance and repairs if needed.

VERMEULENS NEW DEVELOPMENT – WIFI TOWER INSTALLATION 02

Part of the request was to be able easily place the stage tank in new positions as required.

VERMEULENS NEW DEVELOPMENT – WIFI TOWER INSTALLATION 03

The easiest way to do this, was to build a sled on which it can be pulled.

VERMEULENS NEW DEVELOPMENT – WIFI TOWER INSTALLATION 02

Due to the size of the sled, it was assembled and welled in 2 halves.

VERMEULENS NEW DEVELOPMENT – WIFI TOWER INSTALLATION 03

Once welded they were joined together and,

VERMEULENS NEW DEVELOPMENT – WIFI TOWER INSTALLATION 02

The container was placed on top of the sled and welded in position.

VERMEULENS NEW DEVELOPMENT – WIFI TOWER INSTALLATION 06

A water test showed some leaks, which was quickly repaired.

Considering it was a grade B container there was very little water lost.

VERMEULENS NEW DEVELOPMENT – WIFI TOWER INSTALLATION 06
VERMEULENS NEW DEVELOPMENT – WIFI TOWER INSTALLATION 03

We applied a water resistance primer to the inside on the tank.

VERMEULENS NEW DEVELOPMENT – WIFI TOWER INSTALLATION 02

Nice inside paint job!

VERMEULENS NEW DEVELOPMENT – WIFI TOWER INSTALLATION 03

Same water-resistant primer was applied on the outside.

VERMEULENS NEW DEVELOPMENT – WIFI TOWER INSTALLATION 02

Final paint applied to make the staged tank look brand new.

VERMEULENS NEW DEVELOPMENT – WIFI TOWER INSTALLATION 03

Loaded and on its way to its destination in Botswana. The tank worked so well that they ordered another on 3 months later.

Vermeulens New Development – Wi-Fi Tower Installation

VERMEULENS NEW DEVELOPMENT – WIFI TOWER INSTALLATION 03

Details about this Project;

THE PROBLEM AND CLIENT’S REQUEST:

We were request by VERMEULENS and TRAMWAY / JENNEY INTERNET to install a WIFI tower on the new site.

Constraints that were facing us getting the right position and hight to be able to receive a strong signal. Problem is the best position was right in the path of the roadway for the delivery vehicles, we had to improvise to achieve the same result.

THE SOLUTION:

Decision was made to fix the WIFI tower to the side of the building out of the path of the delivery vehicles and in the best position possible.

VERMEULENS NEW DEVELOPMENT – WIFI TOWER INSTALLATION 01

Fixing the first tower section and bracket to the side of the building.

We needed to clear the sheeting.

Nobody wants to fix sheeting!!!

VERMEULENS NEW DEVELOPMENT – WIFI TOWER INSTALLATION 02

The brackets was welded to the outside column and anchored through the wall with treaded bar and back plates to ensure it will go nowhere.

VERMEULENS NEW DEVELOPMENT – WIFI TOWER INSTALLATION 03

The securing of the first section took time, but it was worth it.

It is the base that holds everything else upright.

VERMEULENS NEW DEVELOPMENT – WIFI TOWER INSTALLATION 02

Normally we install the tower sections with a jig, but due to the area and the complexity of the installation we decided it would be safer to use on of our cranes and assemble all the sections on the ground and lift it with on lift.

VERMEULENS NEW DEVELOPMENT – WIFI TOWER INSTALLATION 05

Tightening the last bolts!

VERMEULENS NEW DEVELOPMENT – WIFI TOWER INSTALLATION 06

Job done with quality. Job done safely! Happy client! We can ask for no more!

Baobab Safety Tree Project

SOLHAR - Civil work - Jointshaft Truck Haul Road Project done by SOLHAR ENGINEERING (1)

Details about this Project;

THE CLIENT’S REQUEST:

The iconic baobab tree was chosen by our client as the symbol for the safety drive due to the characteristics of the tree. We were asked to design a tree our of metal sheets that would look as near as possible to the real tree which they would like to permanently place at the mine as symbol of the mine’s commitment to safety and the strength and presence of safety on the mine. OUR SOLUTION: The client selected the legendary baobab tree to represent their safety initiative, inspired by the tree’s unique qualities.

They requested that we create a metal sheet sculpture that closely resembles the authentic baobab, intending to install it permanently at the mine as a testament to their dedication to safety and the robust nature of their safety protocols.

Our challenge was to devise a design that not only appeared lifelike but, after welding and painting, would serve as a striking representation of this iconic tree.

The African baobab is remarkable not only because of its size, lifespan, fruit, and bark but also in the way it continually grows multiple fused stems.

Our client is very happy with the new design and the time and quality we were able to achieve.

The bark regenerates in the space between these stems, called false cavities, which is unique to the baobab.

Our client is very happy with the new design and the time and quality we were able to achieve.

African baobab tree: how one plant creates an entire habitat

Essential for the ecosystem

Baobab trees are fundamental to the entire dry African savanna ecosystem. They help keep soil conditions humid, aid nutrient recycling, and slow soil erosion with their massive root systems.

In an arid climate, baobabs symbolize life in a landscape where little else can thrive. Its large whitish flowers open at night and fall within 24 hours, creating a beautiful display at both ends of the cycle.

As a succulent, the tree absorbs and stores water from the rainy season in its massive trunk, producing a nutrient-dense fruit in the dry season, which can grow up to a foot long. The fruit contains tartaric acid and Vitamin C, serving as a vital nutrient and food source for many species.

They are also an essential source of water and shelter for hundreds of animals, including birds, lizards, monkeys, and even elephants – which can eat their bark for moisture when there is no water nearby. Bats pollinate the flowers, feeding on their nectar.

The African baobab is remarkable not only because of its size, lifespan, fruit, and bark but also in the way it continually grows multiple fused stems. The bark regenerates in the space between these stems, called false cavities, which is unique to the baobab.

In human culture

For humans, the baobab’s fruit pulp can be eaten, soaked in water to make a refreshing drink, preserved into a jam, or roasted and ground to make a coffee-like substance. The bark can be pounded to make everything from rope, mats, and baskets to paper and cloth. Leaves are also used, they can be boiled and eaten, or glue can be made from their flower’s pollen.

Throughout the Zambezi, Indigenous communities note the baobab for its branches that seem to span out in all directions like roots. Local legend says the baobabs were too proud, so the gods became angry and uprooted them and threw them back into the ground upside-down.

Withstanding climate change

Indigenous peoples have learned, through centuries, to live harmoniously with these majestic trees, thriving off of their many uses without depleting them. However, due to climate change, nine of thirteen of Africa’s oldest and largest baobab trees have died in the past decade. Scientists speculate that warming temperatures have killed the trees directly or made them weaker and more susceptible to drought, diseases, fire, or wind.

Only with the integration of ecological, social, and economic studies involving local communities can we restore Africa’s climate and ecosystem over the long term and ensure that the baobab tree will continue to live and thrive for thousands of years to come.
